Jameson Drive

The Project
When our clients approached Parker Grove Design, they were preparing for one of life’s biggest milestones—the arrival of their first baby. Their home featured a long, narrow lounge that felt disconnected and a large open hallway that was underused and they knew it wouldn’t meet their needs once the baby arrived. Our brief was twofold: transform the awkward living space into a functional, inviting family lounge, and carve out a dedicated, calming nursery or playroom downstairs.

The before…
Before & after

An overview
We began by completely rethinking the downstairs layout. The lounge ran from front to back with a central fireplace and at only 3.3m wide and an awkwardly positioned door, made it difficult to fit a large family sofa without cutting the room in two or leaving large areas of unused space.
A knock through to the large underused space in the hall connecting the rear of the lounge and the creation of a separate nursery using the front of the lounge was the answer. We were able to utilise the existing lounge entrance for the newly formed nursery, and then design something really special for the entrance to the new lounge in the form of a full wall of glass.
This maintained access to the garden at the back from the lounge and created a more spacious lounge at 3.7m wide. We cleverly incorporated the existing fireplace into the corner of the new lounge without the need for any additional works, simply replacing the rather dated cast iron replica victorian surround with a more modern glass fronted version – much safer for little ones.
